ASCC Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)  

ASCC is concerned that its customers benefit from their use of our services, and that their use is respectful of our other customers and other users of the Internet. Assuring this requires that its subscribers practice ethical and responsible behavior in their use of the network. With this as a guideline, the following criteria will be used to determine whether activities are acceptable uses of the services provided by ASCC:

  • The use of ASCC’s services and/or facilities to transmit information whose content or meaning, or its distribution or transmission, violates any applicable laws or regulations is prohibited, including, but not limited to, laws or regulations pertaining to pornographic or copyrighted material.
  • Activities which disrupt or interfere with the performance or functional behavior of networks or systems accessible via ASCC’s services and/or facilities are prohibited. Such interference or disruption includes, but is not limited to: propagation of computer worms or viruses; the transmission of information which, by virtue of its content, amount, or routing, degrades the performance, functionality, or reliability of any network or system.
  • Activities which interfere with personal productivity, privacy, or comfort of users of systems or networks accessible via ASCC’s services and/or facilities are prohibited. Such interference or disruption includes, but is not limited to: distribution of unsolicited advertising, recruiting materials, or commercial email; transmission of annoying amounts of information not desired by the recipient(s); impersonating another user; transmission of information with falsified headers; attempting to gain access to private personal information of another user; attempting to gain access to or use the passwords or access codes of another user; and altering or deleting information belonging to another user.
  • Information and resources accessible via ASCC’s services and/or facilities are considered private to the individuals and organizations which own or hold rights to them unless specifically stated otherwise. Thus, the use of ASCC’s services and/or facilities to make unauthorized access to, or use of, information or the computing or communication systems at other sites accessible via ASCCnet is prohibited.
  • Unless specifically authorized, the resale or redistribution of ASCC’s services and/or facilities is prohibited. 

Each ASCC customer site must assure that its users know and abide by ASCC’s Acceptable Use Policy.

ASCC customers which are found to be in violation of this policy are subject to termination of ASCC’s services, with the forfeiture of any and all fees paid.
