Company History

ASCC was founded in 1985 as a satellite television franchise known as Brooks, The Satellite Store, selling satellite television service to residential and commercial customers. The company was immediately and briefly successful, until the introduction of scrambling technology upset the franchise agreement and caused a shake-out in the entire industry. The company reacted by becoming independent under the name of ASCC (A Satellite Communications Company), and trying to market its satellite technical expertise in the commercial sector. Initial success came in the health care and higher education, particularly with a pioneering state-wide distance learning video network built for Penn State University.

The continuing decline in the satellite market led ASCC to diversify into private cable TV, TV distribution, and VSAT communications. Aggressive marketing secured for ASCC a contract for a nationwide VSAT network for Kmart covering 1,500 stores, and created opportunities to expand into intercom and telephone technologies. This resulted in the opening of new offices in North Carolina and Texas and expanded the company's portfolio.

The year 1992 marked the beginning of a new strategic plan for the company which featured further diversification into fiber-optic and data technologies, and a market focus in education and health care. The remote offices were closed so the company could concentrate its efforts on the Western Pennsylvania region.

In 1996, ASCC became the exclusive regional distributor for Rauland-Borg, a leading school and hospital telecommunications manufacturer, and further expanded its product line into data networking and structured cabling. This market position served as a basis for ASCC's evolution into a leading source of nurse-call systems and a major technology supplier for K-12 education. Further growth and diversification have enabled ASCC to become a systems integrator with serious competence in all areas of data, voice, video, and audio communications, covering all aspects, from structured cabling to private data networking. ASCC is now a full-service information technology systems integrator with a comprehensive portfolio of products and services, and a new meaning for its name: A Systems Communication Company.
